The route

Where exactly we shoot around Tower Bridge

Everything below is within a ten-minute walk of Tower Hill station. A one-hour session covers all four; half an hour covers the walkway and one riverside spot. We send you the order in advance, built around the light and around which side of the bridge is quiet at your hour.

The walkway between the towers

Blue railings, painted steel and the Victorian stone of the towers, with the road running beside you. London buses cross the bridge all day, so a red bus in the frame is a matter of timing, not luck.

Best time: Before 9am, when the pavements are mostly commuters.

The granite walls at the foot of the towers

Where the bridge meets the bank, the stone walls give you somewhere to lean or sit with a tower rising straight up behind you. Quieter than the walkway, and the frame that shows how big the bridge really is.

Best time: Any time of day.

The south bank river wall, west of the bridge

From the river wall in front of Potters Fields the whole bridge sits across the frame, with the towers of the City showing through it. This is the postcard view, and the one people mean when they ask for a London Bridge photo.

Best time: Late afternoon, when the low sun falls on the west side of the bridge.

Shad Thames

Cobbles and Victorian warehouses on the south bank, just east of the bridge, with iron gantries crossing overhead between the buildings. Two minutes from the river and a completely different London: narrow, warm and quiet.

Best time: Any time of day; it is never as busy as the bridge.

Light and crowds

The best hour to photograph Tower Bridge

The first hour after sunrise. The walkway is close to empty, the stone of the towers is soft and even, and the river is calm enough to hold their reflection. In winter that means a start around 8am; in June, around 5am.

The second good window is the last two hours before sunset. The low sun lights the west side of the bridge, the side you see from the south bank river wall, and the towers turn warm.

How busy Tower Bridge is, hour by hour

Sunrise to 9am: runners, commuters and a few photographers. This is the window.

9 to 10am: the first tour groups walk over from the Tower of London.

10am to 6pm: busy in both directions on the walkway. We frame to keep strangers out and use the granite walls and Shad Thames, which stay quieter.

After sunset: it thins out again and the bridge is lit, which is a completely different photograph.

Practical

Where we meet, and what it costs

We meet at the north end of Tower Bridge, on the Tower of London side, five minutes on foot from Tower Hill station. You get a map pin and a photo of the exact spot the day before, and your photographer messages you that morning on WhatsApp, so if a train is late or the sky opens, there is a direct line.

Tower Hill is on the District and Circle lines; London Bridge station, on the Jubilee and Northern lines, is a ten-minute walk from the south end. If you are staying nearby we can start at your hotel door instead and walk down together.

Every session includes the planned route, full direction from the first minute, hand-edited photos in a private gallery within one week and behind-the-scenes clips the same evening. Easy cancellation, easy refund.

Before you ask

Tower Bridge photoshoot questions

No, but it is the one most people mean. London Bridge is the plain concrete crossing just upstream, opened in 1973. Tower Bridge, with the two stone towers and the blue suspension chains, opened in 1894. If you searched for a London Bridge photoshoot, this is the bridge you had in mind.

Sometimes. Tower Bridge lifts around 500 times a year to let tall ships through, and the times are published in advance on the Tower Bridge website. We check the timetable for your date, and if a lift falls inside your hour we plan the route so you are on the riverside with the bridge raised behind you.

Not if we start early. From about 10am the walkway is busy in both directions. We frame to keep strangers out and move to the granite walls and Shad Thames, which stay quieter all day.

Yes, in a two-hour session. The District and Circle lines run from Tower Hill to Westminster in about fifteen minutes, which leaves time for a change of clothes on the way. One hour is best spent on a single area.

We shoot anyway. Wet stone and pavements reflect the bridge lights, and umbrellas are in the bag. If the forecast turns severe we move you to another slot for free.
