From the Parliament Square phone box to the bridge arch
The rain stopped ten minutes before we met and left the pavement shining, which is the best thing London weather can do for a session. We shot the red phone box near Parliament Square with the wet street doubling the lights, then the arch under the bridge, and the river wall on the Victoria Embankment with the London Eye across the Thames.
A reminder that a wet forecast is not a reason to cancel. We reschedule for a real storm, for free; for a shower we bring an umbrella, wait ten minutes and shoot on shining streets.
Where we went
Straight to the red phone box near Parliament Square while the pavement was still wet: every light on the street doubles in the puddles, and the red looks deeper than on a dry day. From there across Westminster Bridge, where a light mist softened the Houses of Parliament, then down to the Victoria Embankment for a walk along the river wall with the London Eye across the water. We finished in the arch under the bridge. It is dry, sheltered and frames Big Ben, so it is where we head whenever the next shower arrives.
The ten minutes after rain
The best light of a wet day usually comes right after a shower. The ground is still reflective, the air is clear, the crowds have not come back yet, and the sky often starts to break. If your session starts in the rain, we often wait a few minutes under cover for exactly this moment.
Dark coats, one umbrella and a little movement are all you need. The weather does the rest.
